Wildfire Golf Club will host two major Golf Ontario events in the coming years: the 106th Ontario Men’s Amateur in 2028 and the 95th Ontario Junior Girls’ Amateur in 2030.
Since the club’s opening in August 2003, Wildfire Golf Club has built a strong reputation for its course quality, thoughtful design, and commitment to competitive golf. Hosting both events reflects Golf Ontario’s confidence in Wildfire Golf Club and its ability to deliver a first-class championship experience.
Designed by renowned Canadian golf course architect Tom McBroom, Wildfire has earned recognition as one of the province’s premier golf facilities. In 2026, the club was ranked No. 77 on SCOREGolf’s Top 100 Courses in Canada list, highlighting the quality of the championship test players will face.
Wildfire also has a strong history of hosting elite competition. From 2013 to 2015, the club hosted the Wildfire Invitational on PGA TOUR Canada and has welcomed several Golf Ontario championships, including the 2009 Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship, 2011 Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, and 2017 Ontario Women’s Senior & Mid-Amateur Championship. The club also regularly serves as a qualifying venue for provincial and national events.
“Having a great champtionship venue like Wildfire as a host is a testament to the club’s commitment to growing the game of golf in Ontario,” says Golf Ontario’s Director of Competition and Rules, John Lawrence. “These championships will bring many of the province’s top amateur and junior players to the club, while showcasing both the golf course and surrounding community on a provincial stage.”
The opportunity to host both prestigious championships will allow Wildfire to showcase not only its renowned golf course, but the broader experience that has made the club the perfect destination for golfers across the province. The Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship is one of the province’s most prestigious amateur events, annually bringing together Ontario’s top men to compete for a provincial title. Meanwhile, the Ontario Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship serves as a key development opportunity for the province’s leading young female golfers as they continue their competitive journey.
“What we are most excited to showcase is the full Wildfire experience,” says Wildfire’s General Manger, Jeff Mills. “We are really proud of the Tom McBroom design and the way it fits into our landscape. The granite, white pines and views of Stoney Lake make Wildfire a special place to play, and we believe it will provide a great test for championship golf.”
Mills also emphasized that the experience extends beyond the golf course.
“We want players, families, spectators, volunteers and everyone from Golf Ontario to feel welcome from the moment they arrive. Hospitality and community are a big part of what makes Wildfire, Lakefield and the Kawarthas special, and we are excited to share that experience with visitors.”
The 2030 Ontario Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship will provide an opportunity to showcase the province’s top emerging female golfers while helping support the continued growth of the women’s game in Ontario.
“Hosting the 2030 Ontario Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship is something we are extremely proud of,” says Wildfire’s Head Professional, Meghan McDougall. “There is something particularly special about welcoming the next generation of female golfers to Wildfire and giving them the opportunity to compete for an Ontario championship.”
McDougall believes events like the Junior Girls’ Amateur play an important role in player development.
“Giving young women opportunities to compete at the provincial level allows them to challenge themselves, gain experience, build confidence, and make memories that can stay with them for years,” McDougall says. “For Wildfire, it is also a great opportunity to introduce these young golfers and their families to our club,” she says, adding, “If a young player leaves Wildfire in 2030 feeling proud of how she competed, inspired by the experience, and excited about where golf might take her next, then we will have accomplished something pretty meaningful.”
