Ontario Topples Alberta’s Streak to Win Inter‑Provincial Title at 2025 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship

Team Ontario captured the Inter-Provincial Team Championship at the 2025 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship in New Minas, Nova Scotia, halting Team Alberta’s bid for a fifth consecutive title. Fueled by a record-setting 7-under-par 63 from Don Martone, Ontario claimed an 11-stroke victory, its first team title since 2015. Martone’s standout round not only led the team to victory but also launched him to the top of the individual Senior leaderboard, five shots clear of the field.

Alberta, the defending champions, finished tied for second with New Brunswick at 10-over-par. Teammates Ashley Chinner and Mike Kray contributed to Ontario’s win, with Kray’s score counting both days.

Martone, competing as a senior for the first time, called the win “pretty special” and emphasized staying focused heading into the final 36 holes. His round included three birdies early and a strong closing stretch, capped by an eagle and two birdies in the final four holes.

In the Super Senior division (65+), Edmonton’s James Varnam leads by three. The field has been cut to the low 66 plus ties (77 players total).
