Junior Golf Pathway

Operated by Golf Ontario the Rankings were created to identify the best junior golfers competing in Ontario and to guide junior golfers as they advance in competitive golf. 

As you compete you can track your results and rankings compared to other junior golfers in Ontario and plan the next steps in your development.  

Rankings Overview 

Junior golfers earn ranking points by competing in approved Junior Golf Pathway events. Rankings are designed to fairly reflect performance across events of different sizes, strength, and age divisions. 

  • Players earn points at each eligible event they play. 
  • A player’s best eight (8) results count toward their ranking. 
  • The 2026 Junior Golf Pathway Ranking Season runs from March 1st – October 31st, 2026. 

Eligible Age Divisions 

Age divisions are determined using an August 1 age‑cutoff date, meaning a player’s age as of August 1 is used to assign their ranking category for the season. 

The Junior Golf Pathway Rankings include events with the following age divisions: 

  • Under 13 (U13)- August 1st, 2013, and younger.  
  • Under 15 (U15)- August 1st, 2011, and younger. 
  • Under 17 (U17)- August 1st, 2009, and younger. 
  • Under 19 (U19) – August 1st, 2007, and younger. 

How Points Are Awarded 

Points are awarded based on type of event, field size, and finishing position. 

  • Each event is assigned a set number of points for first place, based on the size of the field. 
  • Larger fields award higher first‑place points than smaller fields. 
  • All other positions receive points as a percentage of first place, based on how they finish relative to the rest of the field. 
  • Points decrease smoothly from first place to last place. 
  • Every player earns points—including last place—while higher finishes and larger fields result in higher point totals. 
  • Points for Provincial and National operated events are assigned higher points due to difficulty to enter and field strength.  

This system ensures consistent, fair scoring across events of varying sizes and rewards athletes for outperforming more competitors. 

Leaderboard Points vs Total Points  

Players are only awarded points once per event, per leaderboard. 

If a player competes in an older age division (“playing up”), they still earn only the points from that single event. However, their result will appear on multiple age‑division leaderboards for visibility and comparison purposes. 

Example: 
If a U13 player earns 50 points while competing in a U19 event, they are awarded 50 points total. Their player profile may display 200 points because the result appears on four leaderboards, but only 50 points are actually earned. 

  •  Rankings and JGP Players of the Year are determined by individual leaderboards, not by the combined profile total. Displayed totals do not increase a player’s earned points. 

Event Lists by Category   

Emerging  

Emerging events are for golfers gaining competitive exposure. Regional Tours are a fantastic place to not only start competing in golf, but to grow. Regional Tours allow you to join a golf community, establish a strong foundation, and develop!  

Advancing  

Advancing events are larger and longer competitive events. Consisting of 18 to 54 holes these events are place to continue to gain exposure to competition and play more.   

Fields for these events are still open.  

Competing  

Competing events require an invitation, qualification, or a certain Handicap Index. These events are larger events often 36–54-hole tournaments, often with a field cut.  

Performing  

Performing events are multi-day junior and amateur events at the provincial, national and international level. Tournament fields are based on invitation or qualification.  

Earning the most points these events have larger and stronger fields.

How do I get Ranked on JGP? 

 Filling out the Junior Golf Pathway Intake Form is the best way to ensure the most accurate results.  

New to Competition 

 Starting out in junior golf can be confusing. A good place to start is the Ontario Junior Competitions Golf Hub. There you can find events and tours in your area and at your level to start competing. 

Already Competing 

Results are sent automatically from tours and events to be ranked. If you are already competing in events, you are most likely already ranked.  

Don’t see yourself ranked? 

If you are competing and your profile or event results are not found on JGP there are step to take to fix that: 

  • Ensure you are on our Master Roster. You can do that by filling out the Junior Golf Pathway Intake Form, this ensure that the information we have is correct and helps avoids inaccuracy that might cause missing events. 
  • If those two options above are completed and a profile or results are still not present, please reach out to JGP@golfontario.ca
